Some of you may know Tamara Laporte. She is a very talented mixed media artist over at Willowing.org. Tamara is known for her popular Life Book online courses. She also has a very nice offer. If you join her email list, she will give you access to an online class to create this beautiful girl in your journal.

Since these pages were created from her class I’m not going to go into detail on how they were made. But, I highly recommend you check out her blog and join her email list. Tamara has so much to offer and I had lots of fun learning new techniques and creating this lovely girl in my 8.5″ x 11″ Art Journal.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoy!!

Gratitude Journal Pages

Gratitude Journal Pages
Created by Sophia Vida

With Thanksgiving approaching, I thought this would be a good time to share my gratitude journal pages I made using rubbers stamps in my 8.5″ x 11″ journal.

To begin, I coated the pages with gesso and added a few torn pieces of Tim Holtz’s printed tissue paper to the background with Mod Podge. Once that was dry, I painted the background with watered down acrylic paints in orange and pink. I used a wet wipe to remove some of the paint and allow the background to show through a little. I continued by adding shapes with white acrylic paint to the background.

While that was drying, I stamped my cupcakes on thick white cardstock using black Staz On Ink. I colored in the images with watercolor pencils and Sakura Gelly Roll Pens. I then cut 1.5″ slits in two of the cupcakes. I slid the base of the cupcakes in the slits to stack them and glued them into place. I wanted to add a little bling, so I accentd the cupcakes with Stardust Stickles.

I printed the sentiment on my computer using thick cardstock.  I glued the sentiment and cupcakes into my journal and used distress ink for shading. And Voila! I added 2 more unique pages to my journal.

Hope you enjoy.  Thanks for stopping by!

Autumn Mixed Media Girl

The vibrant colors of fall are just breathtaking. I created Autumn trying to capture the feeling of fall. Let me know what you think.

I painted this lovely girl using watercolor paints. I added highlights to her hair with a gold Marvy metallic pen. I’m having a hard time using punches on watercolor paper because most of them won’t work on this thick paper. Luckily the Martha Stewart punches work well so I was able to create the smaller leaves and butterflies from watercolor paper that I painted.

The larger leaves were made from watercolor paper using thin dies and my Cuttlebug. Once everything was glued into place I added shading and highlights. Last I accented the butterflies with a green metallic Gelly Roll Pen and Stardust Stickles and Voila! I had a new whimsical girl.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Halloween Vintage Decorations

Happy Halloween
Created by Sophia Vida

I love fall and the cooler weather it brings. It’s just wonderful!! I wanted to share with you a few real easy Halloween decorations I made from a sheet of vintage cardstock I purchased at a craft show.

I started by drilling small holes in the corners of the two larger wood plaques and then sanded them where needed. After brushing off the dust, I applied a good coat of gesso to all three pieces, front and back.

While the gesso was drying, I cut out my images. I then painted each piece with 2 coats of coordinating paints and let it dry. Next, I sanded the edges just a little and brushed off the dust.

I purchased black coated copper jewelry wire that I used to hang two of the plaques with. Once the wires were in place, I glued the images onto all the plaques with Aleene’s Tacky Glue. Last I added torn harvest fabric as an accent and also used it to hang the third plaque. And Voila! I had three unique vintage Halloween decorations!

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoy!

Supplies used in this Project:

  • 3 Vintage Halloween Images
  • 3 Wood Plaques fitting your images
  • Gesso
  • Acrylic Paint: Black, Orange, Red
  • Black Copper jewelry Wire
  • Drill for hanging
  • Harvest Fabric scraps
  • Aleene’s Tacky Glue

Amazing Life Journal Page

I love summer and mermaids and this was another journal page I made using rubbers stamps and stickers in my 8.5″ x 11″ journal.

I started by coating the pages with gesso. I added a few torn pieces of Tim Holtz’s printed tissue paper to the background with Mod Podge. I also added texture with a stencil and fiber paste. Once that was dry, I painted the background with green and blue acrylic paints. I used a small sea sponge to create the dark blue border.

I stamped the mermaid and treasure chest on Strathmore Mixed Media Paper and colored them in using watercolor markers. I added highlights with Sakura Metallic Gelly Roll Pens. and then glued them into the journal with Mod Podge. The small schools of fish on the left page were stamped directly into the journal with Black Staz On Ink.

I used my computer to print the sentiment. I cut out the words and distressed the edges with a metallic blue Gelato and then glued them onto the background.

In my scrapbooking supplies, I found some underwater stickers with shells, seaweed and fish which then added to my pages. Last I added Star Dust Stickles and Metallic Silver Pearls to the stenciled seaweed for a little bling and Voila! I had 2 new pages in my journal.

Hope you enjoy.  Thanks for stopping by!

Create Some Magic Journal Page

Create Some Magic Journal Pages

I have a few journal pages that I need to share with you. I’ve published so many posts that I thought these were on my blog but apparently I left them out. I had bought a hard cover 8.5″ x 11″ journal at the craft store on sale, which is always a plus!

The ivory colored pages are a decent weight with a little texture. However, they’re not thick enough to work well with water so I have to make sure to give the pages a good coat of gesso before starting.

Once the gesso was dry, I painted the background with yellow and orange acrylic paint. For a little texture I used a stencil with fiber paste which I later distressed and sprayed with glimmer mist.

The flowers were stamped on watercolor paper that I cut and glued into the journal along with the green stems I also painted on scrap paper. I added a leafy vine stencil to the background with distress inks.

Next I stamped “create some magic” with black staz on ink directly into the journal.  I highlighted both pages with stickles, distressed the pages a bit and Voila! I had 2 fun, fall colored journal pages.

Thanks for stopping by!

Watercolor Happy Birthday Card

Watercolor Birthday Card
Created by Sophia Vida

I made this card using a cute stamp I bought at a craft show a few years ago. I stamped the image on 140 lb, cold press, watercolor paper using gray, Staz-On ink. Once that dried I added color to the image with watercolor markers and used a Niji water brush to spread the paint.

I then wet the edges around the image with water and let it sit for a minute before carefully tearing them.  The blue/green background was made from a hand wipe I previously used to clean up some paints from my work area. It looked really cool so I flattened it, let it dry and figured I could use it one day and I did!

I used Aleene’s tacky glue to adhere the background and image onto the premade card.  I also added a little Stardust Stickles to the edges of the background for a little bling. Last, I printed a birthday tag from my computer,  distressed the edges and adhered it to the card. And Voila! I had a unique and cute birthday card!

Hope you enjoy!
