Just a quickie post to share another page I created in Life Book 2018. This was taught by a Andrea Gomoll from Germany. She is a very talented mixed media artist. You can find out more about her on her blog at andrea-gomoll.de.

I can’t go into detail on how this was made because it’s a part of Life Book 2018. But I will say I had lots of fun learning new techniques from Andrea!

If you’re interested in signing up for the Life Book class, it’s still open. Just visit Lifebook 2018.

I hope you enjoy!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

This is a short little post today. I’ve been hopping around Life Book 2018 which is hosted by Tamara Laporte because as usual, life got in the way and I’m behind on the weekly courses. But no worries, it’s all good! There’s no time limit or rush. Yay!

This project was part of week 2. I made this cute little Bear of Compassion that has all the love in the world to give when you need it most! Because this is a part of Life Book, I can’t go into detail on how she was made but I wanted to share her with you. The design is a bit different from the original project but this is what resonated with me.

Tamara Laporte is such a talented artist and I love creating in her classes. If you haven’t signed up for Life Book 2018, I highly recommend it! Hop on over to Tamara’s blog and check it out: Willowing.org

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoy!!

Butterfly Zentangle

I recently purchased Tamara Laporte’s new book “Create Your Life Book” and this was one of the projects. This is a wonderful book, filled with lots of fun art projects with step by step instructions and photos from various artists. It’s very much like the online course but if you haven’t joined Lifebook 2018 online yet, this is the next best thing.

Since this is a project from the book, I can’t go into detail on how it was made. But I will say, I improvised a little on the instructions because I wanted to use the supplies I have on hand. Plus I’m just so in love with my brightly colored liquid Ecoline Watercolor paints that I decided to use those for the background instead.

I plan on adding this page to my 2018 Life Book that I will create at the end of the course. To say the least this project was lots of fun to create. Zentangle is a great way to unwind. I hope you enjoy!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Fall Journal

Nothing is to be Feared Watercolor Tree

“Fall Journal”

For this Project you will need:

– Sakura Micron Pens in varying sizes
sakura pens
– Derwent Inktense Pencils

– Kimberly Watercolor Pencils
Kimberly thCA2FHQS2
– Stardust Stickles
– Round Watercolor Brush
– Clean water and paper towels

I have two pieces of inspiration for this painting. First let me say that I finished reading Pam Carriker’s book “Art at the Speed of Life” and thought it was absolutely wonderful. In her book she gives tips on how to manage your art time and schedule it into your busy life. This is something that I’m sure we all struggle with from time to time. Sometimes it doesn’t seem to matter how organized you are, life simply gets in the way and that’s okay.

Pam also gives detailed instructions on various art projects, one of them being on how to make your own book from a single sheet of watercolor paper which is what I created this piece in. This was my first handmade book and I really love it. It has a cool factor because I made it and that in itself was very gratifying.

While on Pinterest I found a tree that was colored using a similar technique to my “Simply Groovy” project. So I decided to go with that. I drew the tree in pencil, then outlined it with the Micron #03 and #05 pens. I colored it with the Kimberly and Inktense pencils and used a wet brush to activate the colors. Once it was dry I added my sentiment and outlined the outer lines of the tree with a thick sharpie marker because the Micron #08 pen wasn’t quite what I was looking for. I couldn’t resist adding a little bling with Stardust Stickles and Voila! I had a one of a kind work of art in my new journal!

Be Mine Zentangle Art Journal

For this Project you will need:

– Sakura Micron Pens in varying sizes
sakura pens
– Sakura Jelly Roll Pens in assorted colors
Sakura Jelly Roll thCAPTC15Q
– Kimberly Watercolor Pencils
Kimberly thCA2FHQS2
– Strathmore 400 Series, Watercolor Cold Press 140 lb Paper, 6″ x 12″
– Star Dust Stickles
– Round Watercolor Brush
– Clean water and paper towels

Here’s another fun journal page. The fun part with this page is that I used coffee to paint the background. Yes, coffee. I saw an article in Cloth Paper Scissors and had to give it a try. When you use the watercolors on top of coffee, it mixes with the colors a bit and tones them down. I like the old romantic feel you get using this technique. Not to mention, your paper smells really nice!!

Start by brewing a really dark cup of coffee. Paint your background leaving a small white border and a few white spots on the page. Let dry. Pencil in your zentangle design and color it with the watercolor pencils. Use your brush and a little water to activate the colors.

Once the paint is dry fill in the outline and patterns using the Micron 03 and 05 pens. If you prefer you can draw your outline with the pens first and then color with the paints. The only problem is because the coffee doesn’t fully soak into your paper, you can smudge the ink from your pens if you get too much water on them. But this may be the look you’re going for.

After everything has dried, use the Sakura Jelly Roll Pens and Stardust Stickles to add a few highlights to your page and Voila! You have a one of a kind work of art!

Thanks for looking and have lots of fun creating your own journal pages!

This long, narrow paper really does create a bit of challenge when it comes to creating something fun. I love trees and birds so I decided to go with that. I drew everything in pencil first then used my Micron 08 pen to draw in the tree and leaves. For the birds I used the smaller nibs on the Micron 05 and 03 pens.

First I colored in the tree using a combination of the Inktense and Kimberly watercolor pencils. I used both sets to get the right color combination. Then I colored the leaves, birds and the blue background last. I used a brush and water to activate the colors. Once that was dry I added highlights with assorted Sakura Jelly Roll pens and Stickles and let it dry.

Now for the really fun part, I needed a sentiment. So…… I found wonderful little sayings in Dove Chocolate wrappers. And there I had it, “Find your passion.” Seemed to fit rather nicely. Not to mention it’s a fun way to get new sentiments. Lol……  And Voila! You have a one of a kind work of art!
