Inspire Yourself Journal Pages

I wanted to share with you a fun and whimsical girl I created in my 8.5″ x 11″ art journal. I started by creating layers with printed tissue papers and other ephemera I had on hand. Once this was dry, I applied a clear coat of gesso and let that dry completely.

Next, I lightly sketched my fun and whimsical girl. I wanted the colors to really jump off the pages, so I painted her hair with a neon pink acrylic paint and the background in a bright turquoise blue. I painted her face with a combination of watercolor and acrylic paints in flesh tones. I added shading with water colors, sketch pencils and colored pencils.

I recently purchased a set of stencils from Faber Castel. I chose to use “Inspire Yourself” for this layout and outlined the stencil with a Sakura Micron Pen. I then colored the letters in with a black Posca Pen. I added a few stamped flower images and highlights with a white Posca pen and white pearl metallic paint in her hair. She wouldn’t be complete without a little bling, so I added Stardust Stickles to the centers of the flowers. And Voila! I had created a beautiful fun and whimsical girl in my journal.

This is a another short post that I made for Life Book 2018 which is hosted by Tamara Laporte! This is for week 12, and the instructor for this project was Sharon Harkness-Dobler. She is a very talented mixed media artist and I’m so happy that she is a member  of the Life Book 2018 Team. I learned so much from her in completing this piece. Sharon has a unique way of creating art and the way in which she views it as she goes along.  Since this is a part of Life Book, I can’t go into detail on how she was made but I wanted to share this beautiful angel with you.

For more information on Sharon Harkness-Dobler you can visit her blog at yellowrosedbs.blogspot.de. Also, you can visit her on Instagram at instagram.com/yellowroseart

If you’re interested, you can find out more about more about Life Book 2018, on Willowing.org. I’m very impressed with all the wonderful artists that are a part of this team and I’m looking forward to learning new techniques!

Be Mine Mixed Media Canvas

 Be Mine Mixed Media Canvas
(created by Sophia Vida)

I bought the book, “Painting for the Soul” by Isabelle Zacher-Finet. It’s a wonderful book full of inspiration that I love. One of the projects in the book is a heart canvas similar to the one I made. You can see a glimpse of it on the cover below.

I started by picking out my main colors fuchsia, blue, red, purple and yellow. I painted random blocks of color with the acrylic paints on a 19.5″ x 16″ canvas.

It still looked a little plain so I dipped the end of the center of a paper towel holder in yellow paint and stamped circles onto the canvas. I also randomly added a few streaks of light pink and lavender paint and let it dry. Next, I drew the hearts and painted the surrounding area with white paint and let it dry.

I used a Black Posca Pen to write a few Valentine sentiments on the canvas. I highlighted the hearts and some of the words with a Gold Marvy Metallic Marker. I distressed the edges of the canvas with Dark Purple Gelato. I added a little shading to the hearts with a watered down Gray Gelato. Last I added dots around each of the hearts with Blue, Red, Pink and Purple Stickles and Voila! I had a fun Valentine Canvas!

Hope you enjoy!

Supplies used:

– 19.5″ x 16″ Canvas Panel
– Assorted Acrylic Paints: Fuchsia, Blue, Red, Purple, Yellow, Pink, Lavender, White

I moving along slowly but surely. This is the latest journal pages I finished for the third lesson in She Blooms in Ink with Tamara Laporte at Willowing.org. This was a total side profile which was tough, but she came out fairly descent. Love the bright spring colors on this one. As always, I had lots and lots of fund creating her!

As with my last post, I can’t go into great detail on how she was made but I used my   large 11″ x 14″ Strathmore Watercolor Journal. My quote for this one was “Reflect what you Desire.” I hope you’ll join me as I continue on my Journaling Adventure! I’m also working on a Valentine’s Day painting in between my two online classes. I’m hoping to get it done in the next few days. So stay tuned!

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoy!!

Dedication Journal Page

I’m so excited to be a part of Life Book 2018 hosted by Tamara Laporte! This is my first time joining a group of this size or even length of time for that matter. The way it works is basically you create a page of art every week and at the end of the year, you bind your work into a book.  There are over 30 artists, crafters and healers who join in teaching this year long course.

I got in at the beginning but unfortunately came down with the flu right after the holidays so between this class and She Blooms in Ink, I’m a bit behind. But that’s okay because you can complete the courses at your own pace.

For more information on Tamara Laporte visit her blog at Willowing.org. This is direct link to Life Book 2018 so you can get more information on this wonderful course!

Any way, this is the first journal page I’ve created and I had such a blast with it. I learned new tips and techniques that I look forward to using on my future art projects! The music notes are copies of sheet music from my father when he studied music in college. It’s something that I love weaving into my creations.

I can’t wait to start the next lesson and hopefully, I’ll catch up, lol….

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoy!!

I finally completed the second lesson in She Blooms in Ink with Tamara Laporte at Willowing.org. Doing a girl looking off to the side was a bit harder than I initially thought. It took me a lot longer to finish her, but it was lots of fun!

The colors never seem to come out the way I want even though I have a color chart I created. But they really do pop! This online class is so much fun and I am very much looking forward to the next lesson.

As with my last post, I can’t go into great detail on how she was made but I used my   large 11″ x 14″ Strathmore Watercolor Journal. My quote for this one was “Believe in the Magic.” I hope you’ll join me next week as I continue on my Journaling Adventure!
