Great Things Journal Pages

Cloth Paper Scissors was having a Reader Challenge to create jaw dropping journal pages. Although I wasn’t chosen it was lots of fun creating them in my 5.5″ x 8″ Strathmore Mixed Media Journal.

I started coating the pages with Gesso. Next I adhered punched butterflies to the background from pages of an old book and sheet music using Matte Medium.

I sprayed a small amount of blue and green Dylusions inks into small paper cups and painted the background. I really love how bright and vivid these inks are. They really make your pages pop!

I then used fiber paste with a palette knife and stencil in the top right and left corner of the pages. After the paste dried I painted them with white acrylic paint and rubbed off the excess with a tissue. I also distress the outside edges of the pages with Ranger Black Soot.

I designed my mail box by cutting a 9″ x 3″ rectangle from bright yellow cardstock. To get the ends nice and round, I used a circle stencil and cut them out. Next I folded this piece in half and inserted a brad on the right side that said “I’m cute.”  This will become the front of the mail box.

On the back of the mailbox I created a small hole about 1/2″ down from the edge and inserted a 5″ piece of bakers twine. This would keep the mail box closed when wrapped around the brad. Then I created a 2″ mailbox flag from red cardstock and set both these pieces aside.

For the image I used a photo of my cocker spaniel puppy when she was about 10 weeks old. She was adorably cute and still is!  I glued the image inside the mail box and added shading with a sketch pencil. It still needed a little something, so I found 4 paper flowers in my stash and glued those above my pup.

For the base of the mail box I cut a 1.25″ x 2″ rectangle from the same yellow cardstock. I notched the top corners and glued this piece into the bottom center of my journal on the right page. Next I glued my mailbox and flag onto my page making sure to slightly overlap the box and the base. I then added a little shading to the outside of the mail box and base with a sketch pencil.

I punched a few flowers from different shades of pink cardstock. I distressed the edges and added stickles to the centers. Next, I glued the flowers into my journal. I used a colored pencil to draw stems and leaves.

For a little extra pizazz I punched a few colorful butterflies from paper I had previously created and glued them into the journal. The last step was to print a sentiment from my computer, cut it out and adhere it to the left page of the journal. I outlined the sentiment with a black Micron pen.

And Voila! I had a cute journal layout with a an opening mail box!

Thanks for stopping by!!

Inspire Yourself Journal Pages

 Inspire Yourself Journal Pages
Created by Sophia Vida

I wanted to share with you a fun and whimsical girl I created in my 8.5″ x 11″ art journal. I started by creating layers with printed tissue papers and other ephemera I had on hand. Once this was dry, I applied a clear coat of gesso and let that dry completely.

Next, I lightly sketched my fun and whimsical girl. I wanted the colors to really jump off the pages, so I painted her hair with a neon pink acrylic paint and the background in a bright turquoise blue. I painted her face with a combination of watercolor and acrylic paints in flesh tones. I added shading with water colors, sketch pencils and colored pencils.

I recently purchased a set of stencils from Faber Castel. I chose to use “Inspire Yourself” for this layout and outlined the stencil with a Sakura Micron Pen. I then colored the letters in with a black Posca Pen. I added a few stamped flower images and highlights with a white Posca pen and white pearl metallic paint in her hair. She wouldn’t be complete without a little bling, so I added Stardust Stickles to the centers of the flowers. And Voila! I had created a beautiful fun and whimsical girl in my journal.

Tulip Art Journal

“Tulip Art Journal”
Created by Sophia Vida

I had a very busy schedule the other day but really wanted, no needed to create some art. So I made this quick journal page that was lots of fun and satisfying for my artsy side.

I started by sketching the tulips in pencil and then outlined them with a Sakura Micron #03 pen. I added a little shading and fine details with a Sakura Micron #01 pen. I also thickened the lines where needed with the #03.

Next I colored the sketch with a combination of Inktense and Kimberly Watercolor Pencils. I activated the paints using a Niji waterbrush. You just have to make sure to clean your brush on a folded paper towel when switching colors.

Once my painting was dry, I added two butterfly stamps and a little more detailing. Then I added a few highlights with a white Posca Pen. Last I gave it a little bling with Stardust Stickles and Voila! I created a fun page in my art journal!

Hope you enjoy creating yours!

Dedication Journal Page

Dedication Journal Page for Life Book 2018
Created by Sophia Vida

I’m so excited to be a part of Life Book 2018 hosted by Tamara Laporte! This is my first time joining a group of this size or even length of time for that matter. The way it works is basically you create a page of art every week and at the end of the year, you bind your work into a book.  There are over 30 artists, crafters and healers who join in teaching this year long course.

I got in at the beginning but unfortunately came down with the flu right after the holidays so between this class and She Blooms in Ink, I’m a bit behind. But that’s okay because you can complete the courses at your own pace.

For more information on Tamara Laporte visit her blog at Willowing.org. This is direct link to Life Book 2018 so you can get more information on this wonderful course!

Any way, this is the first journal page I’ve created and I had such a blast with it. I learned new tips and techniques that I look forward to using on my future art projects! The music notes are copies of sheet music from my father when he studied music in college. It’s something that I love weaving into my creations.

I can’t wait to start the next lesson and hopefully, I’ll catch up, lol….

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoy!!

Some of you may know Tamara Laporte. She is a very talented mixed media artist over at Willowing.org. Tamara is known for her popular Life Book online courses. She also has a very nice offer. If you join her email list, she will give you access to an online class to create this beautiful girl in your journal.

Since these pages were created from her class I’m not going to go into detail on how they were made. But, I highly recommend you check out her blog and join her email list. Tamara has so much to offer and I had lots of fun learning new techniques and creating this lovely girl in my 8.5″ x 11″ Art Journal.

Gratitude Journal Pages

Gratitude Journal Pages
Created by Sophia Vida

With Thanksgiving approaching, I thought this would be a good time to share my gratitude journal pages I made using rubbers stamps in my 8.5″ x 11″ journal.

To begin, I coated the pages with gesso and added a few torn pieces of Tim Holtz’s printed tissue paper to the background with Mod Podge. Once that was dry, I painted the background with watered down acrylic paints in orange and pink. I used a wet wipe to remove some of the paint and allow the background to show through a little. I continued by adding shapes with white acrylic paint to the background.

While that was drying, I stamped my cupcakes on thick white cardstock using black Staz On Ink. I colored in the images with watercolor pencils and Sakura Gelly Roll Pens. I then cut 1.5″ slits in two of the cupcakes. I slid the base of the cupcakes in the slits to stack them and glued them into place. I wanted to add a little bling, so I accentd the cupcakes with Stardust Stickles.

I printed the sentiment on my computer using thick cardstock.  I glued the sentiment and cupcakes into my journal and used distress ink for shading. And Voila! I added 2 more unique pages to my journal.

Hope you enjoy.  Thanks for stopping by!

Autumn Mixed Media Girl

Autumn Mixed Media Girl
Created by Sophia Vida

The vibrant colors of fall are just breathtaking. I created Autumn trying to capture the feeling of fall. Let me know what you think.

I painted this lovely girl using watercolor paints. I added highlights to her hair with a gold Marvy metallic pen. I’m having a hard time using punches on watercolor paper because most of them won’t work on this thick paper. Luckily the Martha Stewart punches work well so I was able to create the smaller leaves and butterflies from watercolor paper that I painted.

The larger leaves were made from watercolor paper using thin dies and my Cuttlebug. Once everything was glued into place I added shading and highlights. Last I accented the butterflies with a green metallic Gelly Roll Pen and Stardust Stickles and Voila! I had a new whimsical girl.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Thanks for stopping by!
