I fell in love with a wonderful book I found at Barnes & Noble called “Collage Fusion” by Alma de la Melena Cox.  In her book, Alma gives you fabulous techniques for combining pyrography, painting, collaging and so much more. The book is well written with detailed instructions and photos.

I found the fabrics at Joann’s.  I started with the blue, multi colored one first because it had a peacock pattern that caught my eye. It was so bold and bright that adding the other coordinating colors was pretty quick and easy. The next step was to come up with a design so I drew this on an 8.5″ x 11″ piece of paper. I had to adjust the size slightly to fit the birch wood panel I was going to be using.

I then transferred the outline to the wood panel which I burned using my pyrography set. I painted each section with a contrasting color that was in one of the fabrics. I didn’t have the exact shade of colors needed so I did a little mixing and it turned out pretty good.

The next step was to cut the fabric in reverse and cut each section a little smaller than the actual size. I used the EZ-Steam II fusible web on the back of the fabric to keep it from fraying.

Once I had my pieces of fabric cut, I used Aleene’s Tacky Glue to adhere them to the wood. Last I added a few gold rhinestones to the sun’s rays, Stickles to the mountain tops and Voila! I had a unique piece of art.

Hope you enjoy!
