Sun Zentangle

This is a fun and easy project to do. Zentangling is a great way to relieve stress by creating repeating patterns. Plus painting is also a great stress reliever and gives it that pop of color!

For this Project you will need:

– Sakura Micron Pens in varying sizes
sakura pens
– Ecoline Liquid Watercolor or any other Watercolor Paints you have on hand
– Colored Pencils
– Watercolor Cold Press 140 lb Paper, 8″ x 8″ square
– Niji Waterbrush – Medium
NijiWaterbrush
– Glitter Paint
– Paper towels

Instructions:

  1. Start by cutting a piece of 8″ x 8″ watercolor paper.
  2. Lightly draw two lines in the middle vertically and horizontally. Next lightly draw lines diagonally from corners to corners.
  3. The middle of the paper is where all the lines intersect. Using your compass, draw a 3.25″ circle. Keeping your compass in the middle extend it outward and draw another circle approximately 4″ in  size. This will give you the ring around her face.
  4. Using a ruler draw your rays. The lines you drew in Step 2 will be in the center of each ray which measures 1.5″ at the base of the sun. The rays at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 positions measure 1″ across the top at the edge of the paper.  The corner rays should have their points meet in the corners.
  5. Once you like your basic design, gently erase the intersecting guide lines.
  6. Using a blue watercolor paint, paint the areas in between the rays. Let dry.
  7. Using a bright yellow watercolor paint, paint the sun and the rays. While the paint is still wet, add a little orange watercolor to the base of the rays and let the colors mix. Paint the outer circle of the sun orange and allow the orange to run into the edge of the inner circle of the sun. Let dry.
  8. Once your paint has completely dried, you can start by outlining your sun with a Micron #05 pen.
  9. Using a Micron #03 pen, draw your zentangle patterns in the sun rays and outer ring. You can fill all of the rays with patterns or just the ones in the 3, 6, 9 and 12 positions. The choice is yours. Be creative.
  10. Using a pencil, lightly sketch in her face. Once your happy with the result, use the Micron #01 pen to draw it in. Draw the eyelashes with the Micron #005 pen.
  11. Paint her lips with a pink/reddish watercolor paint and let dry. Give her a little blush on the cheeks and highlight her eyes with paint.
  12. Using a colored pencil add shading around her face and edges of the rings. I used an orange pencil on the edges of her face. I then used a sketching pencil around the rings and on her face for shading.
  13. Once your satisfied with your sun, paint a few of the rays with Glitter Paint for a little bling and Voila! You have a one of a kind Zentangle Sun!

Hope you enjoyed!

This is a another short post that I made for Life Book 2018 which is hosted by Tamara Laporte! This is for week 12, and the instructor for this project was Sharon Harkness-Dobler. She is a very talented mixed media artist and I’m so happy that she is a member  of the Life Book 2018 Team. I learned so much from her in completing this piece. Sharon has a unique way of creating art and the way in which she views it as she goes along.  Since this is a part of Life Book, I can’t go into detail on how she was made but I wanted to share this beautiful angel with you.

For more information on Sharon Harkness-Dobler you can visit her blog at yellowrosedbs.blogspot.de. Also, you can visit her on Instagram at instagram.com/yellowroseart

If you’re interested, you can find out more about more about Life Book 2018, on Willowing.org. I’m very impressed with all the wonderful artists that are a part of this team and I’m looking forward to learning new techniques!

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoy!!

Butterfly Zentangle

I recently purchased Tamara Laporte’s new book “Create Your Life Book” and this was one of the projects. This is a wonderful book, filled with lots of fun art projects with step by step instructions and photos from various artists. It’s very much like the online course but if you haven’t joined Lifebook 2018 online yet, this is the next best thing.

Since this is a project from the book, I can’t go into detail on how it was made. But I will say, I improvised a little on the instructions because I wanted to use the supplies I have on hand. Plus I’m just so in love with my brightly colored liquid Ecoline Watercolor paints that I decided to use those for the background instead.

I plan on adding this page to my 2018 Life Book that I will create at the end of the course. To say the least this project was lots of fun to create. Zentangle is a great way to unwind. I hope you enjoy!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Be Mine Mixed Media Canvas

 Be Mine Mixed Media Canvas
(created by Sophia Vida)

I bought the book, “Painting for the Soul” by Isabelle Zacher-Finet. It’s a wonderful book full of inspiration that I love. One of the projects in the book is a heart canvas similar to the one I made. You can see a glimpse of it on the cover below.

I started by picking out my main colors fuchsia, blue, red, purple and yellow. I painted random blocks of color with the acrylic paints on a 19.5″ x 16″ canvas.

It still looked a little plain so I dipped the end of the center of a paper towel holder in yellow paint and stamped circles onto the canvas. I also randomly added a few streaks of light pink and lavender paint and let it dry. Next, I drew the hearts and painted the surrounding area with white paint and let it dry.

I used a Black Posca Pen to write a few Valentine sentiments on the canvas. I highlighted the hearts and some of the words with a Gold Marvy Metallic Marker. I distressed the edges of the canvas with Dark Purple Gelato. I added a little shading to the hearts with a watered down Gray Gelato. Last I added dots around each of the hearts with Blue, Red, Pink and Purple Stickles and Voila! I had a fun Valentine Canvas!

Hope you enjoy!

Supplies used:

– 19.5″ x 16″ Canvas Panel
– Assorted Acrylic Paints: Fuchsia, Blue, Red, Purple, Yellow, Pink, Lavender, White
– Gelatos: Dark Purple, Gray
– Black Posca Pen
– Marvy Metallic Pen – Gold
– Stickles: Blue, Red, Pink, Purple
– #10 Acrylic Brush
– Center from Paper Towel Roll (or any other circular item you have)
– Plastic Coated Paper Plate (for mixing colors)
– Paper Towels
– Container with clean water to rinse brushes

Reflect What You Desire Journal Pages

Reflect What You Desire Journal Pages
Created by Sophia Vida

I moving along slowly but surely. This is the latest journal pages I finished for the third lesson in She Blooms in Ink with Tamara Laporte at Willowing.org. This was a total side profile which was tough, but she came out fairly descent. Love the bright spring colors on this one. As always, I had lots and lots of fund creating her!

As with my last post, I can’t go into great detail on how she was made but I used my   large 11″ x 14″ Strathmore Watercolor Journal. My quote for this one was “Reflect what you Desire.” I hope you’ll join me as I continue on my Journaling Adventure! I’m also working on a Valentine’s Day painting in between my two online classes. I’m hoping to get it done in the next few days. So stay tuned!

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoy!!

Dedication Journal Page

Dedication Journal Page for Life Book 2018
Created by Sophia Vida

I’m so excited to be a part of Life Book 2018 hosted by Tamara Laporte! This is my first time joining a group of this size or even length of time for that matter. The way it works is basically you create a page of art every week and at the end of the year, you bind your work into a book.  There are over 30 artists, crafters and healers who join in teaching this year long course.

I got in at the beginning but unfortunately came down with the flu right after the holidays so between this class and She Blooms in Ink, I’m a bit behind. But that’s okay because you can complete the courses at your own pace.

For more information on Tamara Laporte visit her blog at Willowing.org. This is direct link to Life Book 2018 so you can get more information on this wonderful course!

Any way, this is the first journal page I’ve created and I had such a blast with it. I learned new tips and techniques that I look forward to using on my future art projects! The music notes are copies of sheet music from my father when he studied music in college. It’s something that I love weaving into my creations.

I can’t wait to start the next lesson and hopefully, I’ll catch up, lol….

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoy!!
