Alcohol Ink Coffee Filter Cards

I found this wonderful little book at the craft store “Creative Colors for Paper Arts with Markers & Alcohol Inks” by Barbara Buechley, Jen Del Muro, Donna Goss, Paula Phillips. It’s a 27 page book filled with beautiful inspirational ideas.

One of my favorites was the coffee filter cards by Barbara Beuchley. Since I love working with watercolors, Barbara’s technique gave me the same look. I had fun experimenting with color combinations and using Ranger liquid alcohol inks as well as alcohol ink markers. The results were bold, vibrant colors that really popped!

The blending solution for alcohol ink can get pricey, especially when you use a lot. So to blend the colors, I used rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and it worked beautifully. To accent the inks I used puff paints and Angel Glimmer Mist. I printed different birthday fonts on my computer which I punched with a tag punch. Last, I distressed the edges of the 4″ x 8″ card and tag with Ranger Tea Dye Ink and that was it!

Pink Aquafleur Rose

I wanted to share with you a wonderful blog I’ve been following called “A little lime” by a very talented artist, Helen Williams. In her August 12th post she e-mailed detailed instructions to all her followers on how to draw this beautiful Aquafleur Rose. I pinned it to my Pinterest – Drawing How To’s Board. Her instructions were very easy to follow and so much fun.

I started drawing the rose in pencil and then switched to the Copic Multiliner Pen. After my drawing was done, I colored the image with the Spectrum Noir Markers which blend beautifully.

The only problem was since I wasn’t sure how I was going to color this rose at first, if at all, I used the Strathmore Mixed Media paper. This paper sometimes causes the alcohol ink markers to run a little as you see. It doesn’t look too bad but I definitely recommend using the Crafters Companion paper with the Alcohol Ink Markers. It works much better with the alcohol inks.

To finish it off with a little bling, I highlighted the rose with Stardust Stickles and Voila! I had a one of a kind rose to use on a card or other mixed media project.

Simply Groovy

I saw a design on Pinterest and pinned it on my Art Journaling Board. I remembered making one of these designs when I was a kid in school. I also remembered how unhappy I was when it didn’t work the way it was supposed to.

The idea is to draw free form lines starting from one side to another. Then color in your spaces with different colors but you can’t have two of the same color touching. When I was a kid I used 1 color and randomly hopped around the page and then moved on to the next color and so on. This was okay for the most part but when it came down to the last few spaces I ended up with the same color touching in two of the spaces.

To avoid that same mishap again I started with one space and continued moving along. This worked beautifully and I had a lot of fun and one big smile since I overcame my childhood blunder 🙂

Looking at the design it reminded me of something out of the 70’s. I thought I it would make a fun background for a card or some other art project. But I haven’t made up my mind as of yet. For now I’m just going to enjoy the bright fun colors.

So get out your markers, colored pencils or crayons and have a little fun!!
